Have a listen to this. It’s straight up, ballsy rock n roll with just a hint of blues and country. It’s trashy and full of life. It could have been from pretty much any decade but it’s from right here right now. It’s by someone who hasn’t even hit twenty yet. She used to play the ukulele and sing sweet little ditties about love. They were the kind of songs we’d probably have sat back with a glass of sweet lemonade and sighed about missing summer. Now she’s playing like a girl possessed, thrashing out  tunes that we’d like to hear underground in a dirty dark sweaty room, tipsily swigging on a bottle of Jack Daniels and throwing ourselves around in a tangled mess of thrashing heated up bodies.

You want reference points? We did that here. At two minutes and thirty seconds Anything for You doesn’t know the meaning of time wasting. It’s the metaphoric version of kicking the door down in just your underwear, taking a shot at someone’s head and getting out again before anyone has even noticed.

Taken from her 5 track Next To You EP which is due on May 12th, we’re pretty fired up for Misty Miller right now. She's the devil woman and we like it. Right now we'd do anything for her, but to quote Meatloaf we won't do THAT.

Knesset - New Waves

Google Knesset and you will quickly learn (as we did) that it is the legislative branch of the Israeli government. It is also the name of a band. Thankfully it’s the second of these two that we’re featuring today.

Here are 9 facts about Knesset that we’re going to use to introduce you to them:

1. Knesset is one of those bands that is going to annoy the grammar police. Forthcoming EP Sage features a song called RVRSE. 

2. The grammar police always set themselves up for a fall. Usually on Twitter, whilst drunk tweeting. We've checked Knesset's twitter and couldn't see any evidence of drunk tweets. It was all remarkably coherent. 

3. Thankfully RVRSE the song is not a mess of bad grammar and wordage either, it leaves that to the title, although it does feature some swearing. Our mother taught us that the use of swearing displayed a lack of intellect and ability to use language. (We probably told her to f*ck off after that). So we’re not sure what she would make of this rather enjoyable widescreen indie rock with big aspirations, chest thumping drums and lyrics about being alone. Maybe if Knesset did a radio edit mother would be happy.

4. Knesset have also covered Bon Iver’s Holocene. You can listen to that here. Every time we hear it we keep thinking that Wayne Coyne of the Flaming Lips has nipped in to do the vocals, or maybe Peter Silberman of The Antlers.

5. If you’re like us and like to close your eyes and listen to the music and imagine what the band look like, you’d probably guess that at least one member of Knesset has facial hair and that one of them wears a check shirt. Statistically of course there’s a reasonable chance of this anyway, but the video for Bitter Hearts (below) reveals your guesses as correct. We also conjectured that the band would be the classic vocals, guitar, bass and drums four piece, but we were wrong with that one; they’re actually a trio.

6. On their Facebook page Knesset suggest a love for My Bloody Valentine declaring 2013’s MBV a modern Loveless. We’d disagree, but if you listen and watch the video to Bitter Hearts you can hear a bit of a toned down Kevin Shields influence as the jangles and slacker-rock give way to a heavier denser noise from around the 3.50 mark.

7. Quite a few people are comparing Knesset to Death Cab For Cutie. Well, when we say quite a few, we’ve read two other articles about the band and both of them mentioned Death Cab, so we figure that’s good enough to justify our statement.

8. As far as we are aware Knesset have no connection to Israel and are actually based in Los Angeles.

Beatrice Eli - New Waves

According to Wikipedia musicologists define pop music by five main characteristics, one of which is a tendency to reflect existing trends rather than progressive developments. Based on this definition alone Sweden’s Beatrice Eli is most certainly making pop music. For her songs seem to grasp a whole clutch of bang on trend sounds and merge them into one composite whole. If this statement appears negative, it isn’t. We love pop music. Not every piece of art can be progressive and when it is, it’s often utter bollocks. What’s more important is the quality of the art, which of course is a highly subjective marker, but as you’re reading this music blog we hope that you don’t just visit it for food and sex analogies (we’re sorry to anyone who is visiting today expecting to see live streams of a music blogger eating his breakfast under the banner Tasty Tuesday, but surely it was obvious it was an April Fool yesterday wasn’t it?) and actually come here to listen to some great tunes as well and trust us to bring you that quality.

So press play on Violent Silence below and see what you think. Pretty good huh? We think so. It’s as if Adele, Paloma or Amy (R.I.P) jumped in the studio, shouted “let’s get a bit more modern, throw in some big Florence and the Machine style drums, a few electronic flourishes and a plus size hooky chorus and we’ll be onto a winner – well at least Breaking More Waves blog will like it.” Beatrice would of course be right, although she didn’t hook our ears immediately; there’s two other songs floating around online (The Conqueror and It’s Over) that passed us by. We can’t imagine the postman whistling those two as much as Violent Silence. Still, 1 out of 3 is still a good start. Let’s see what happens next.

An Important Announcement About Breaking More Waves

Every blog has to evolve to survive and remain relevant. So today we’re announcing some changes to Breaking More Waves that will push us into a new frontier of blogging. We’re confident that today will be an important marker in our history and quite possibly of amateur on line web publication itself.

Anyone who has read more than a couple of posts on this blog probably won’t have failed to have noticed that we’re big on sex and food analogies in relation to music. In the past visitors and friends have even commented that we should just get it out of our system and start up blogs on these two subjects.

We’ve been thinking about this for some time and today can fully reveal our plans.

We will remain (partly) a music blog but will be turning our thoughts to our other two favourite subjects on particular days of the week.

The new format of Breaking More Waves will be as follows:

Monday will be Music Monday and will continue to focus on new music, new artists and discussions around everything tuneful. Essentially there will be no change here.

Tuesday will be known as Tasty Tuesday. We’ll be live streaming action of us cooking and eating our breakfast, lunch and evening meal for you to watch and enjoy. Of course everything we stream will have a hidden status subtext. For example when our girlfriend cooks us a meal, the hidden message in broadcasting this to the web is "hey look, we’re not single, the girlfriend looks after us and it’s desperately important for you all to know that.” When we’re out at a flash restaurant our live stream will make it 100% clear that we’re loaded enough to afford it or that (even better) our friends are paying because we’re so bloody popular.

Wednesday will be a special day for the oversexed, single and lonely people out there. It will be called W*nk Wednesday and we’ll be providing links to readers recommended adult websites for your viewing (and whatever else you do) pleasure.

Thursday will be our day off from the blog. We will probably need it after W*nk Wednesday, but also because we couldn’t think of a suitable piece of alliteration to go with Thursday and either music, food or sex.

Friday will be Foody Friday, our second day of delicious content for you to eat up. On this day we’ll have exclusive never seen before pictures of hipsters taking photos of their meals. Like this.

Weekends will be all about love, baby.

Sexy Saturdays and Saucy Sunday’s will be dedicated to posts about sex and shagging. Expect erotic fiction, saucy pictures and occasional ‘educational’ live streams. We’re still looking for volunteers for these live streams, but irrespective of if you are single or a couple if you would like to participate in this element of the blog, please get in contact via Twitter, email or leave a comment below. Threesomes are also welcome, we’re very inclusive. Obviously we won’t be able to pay you anything but you will (quite literally) get plenty of exposure worldwide.
