24 Hour Blogathon - Coach Party - Can't Talk, Won't

This post is part of a 24 hour blogathon (conducted after a 10 mile run) in support of Solent Mind, a mental health support charity. I would be really grateful if you would help by sponsoring me and help raise some funds for the charity. You can find my sponsorship page by clicking this link

Having started today with a couple of posts about running, now we can turn to gorge on the real meat (or perhaps the real quorn if you are vegetarian) with a band that if things weren’t the weird way they are would have probably been on their way to my home city to play Dials Festival 2020 today. And whilst I don’t want to get too disconsolate about the fact that our little new music festival in Portsmouth was cancelled due to Covid-19, if you can let me have this one sad-face moment, that would be appreciated. Then we’ll get on with the rest of the day shall we?

Coach Party was the very first band I booked for Dials Festival 2020. I made my first tentative enquiry about booking them (having seen them in a previous incarnation) in October 2018 prior to their debut track Oh Lola being released. Since then they’ve released a blast of a debut EP and a cover of Clairo’s Bangs.

But now they’ve gone full throttle. Can’t Talk, Won’t is a giant-riffing, mosh-pit inducing, indie-rocking tune that punches, kicks, bites and screams with more energy than a crate of Lucozade. Don’t be misled by the jubilant vigour of the tune though. The idea around the song is a little heavier – it centers around being triggered by tiny little meaningless things because you’ve repressed and not dealt with the bigger things that have hurt you. Remember kids, it's good to talk. (And for those who live in the Solent area like Coach Party and myself it's probably a good time at this point to link you to the Solent Mind web page (here), as this 24 hour blogathon is in support of them and being able to talk about stuff is a big help in mental health)

This is a tour de force of a song and at least in part makes up for the fact that Coach Party won’t be lighting up Portsmouth this evening.

Good luck with this. I’ll donate when I get home. Pester me if I forget. Working tomorrow so will use your recommendations as my soundtrack
