London’s Nao blew up (ok she didn’t actually physically blow up, that would have been pretty messy) last year with her debut EP So Good. Since then the title track has been played 1.5 million times on Soundcloud and over 300,000 times on Spotify. Of course, the fact it was a stealthily groovy piece of electronic funk that we could imagine the likes of Prince approving of is the main reason for this, but the fact that it also featured the elusive Jai Paul’s brother A.K Paul no doubt helped its exposure no end. Then Nao did it all again recently with vocals on Firefly, a track from 18 year old Channel Islander Alex Crossan, better known as self proclaimed beat slayer and heart breaker Mura Massa, on his Someday Somewhere EP, a real body mover.
Next up is a new 5 track EP titled February 15 which was released just a few days ago via Little Tokyo Recordings and is available to stream or buy from all the usual places. From it we’re streaming Inhale Exhale, a track which once again brings out the funk via a bass line that struts along with a confident ascendancy to support Nao’s sweet soulful vocal.
Having supported Little Dragon out on their European tour Nao plays her own headline show at London’s Oslo on 6th May (which is sold out), before heading to the Great Escape in Brighton and the Alcove Stage at Latitude this summer. We’re expecting more explosions of the groovalicious kind from this singer as the year goes on.
