The Staves - Steady

Mention Midge Ure to most people and they’d probably think of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas or the 80’s classic Vienna. Less people would probably shout that he was also the guy that had his own solo number 1 with If I Was. Why do we mention this? All because of a dodgy shoe-horn in to The Staves, who in 2015 will be releasing their second album, also titled If I Was on the 23rd March. Maybe they're fans of Midge? The record was recorded in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and produced by Mr Bon Iver himself (Justin Vernon). We’re expecting it to ooze quality, emotion and general loveliness.

From that album comes new song Steady, which slowly unfurls itself like one of those beautiful timelapse videos of a flower opening, revealing just more and more beauty. It’s classic Staves, don’t worry they haven’t decided to go grime. Maybe that will be album 3? Until that Wiley collaboration, here’s where you’ll find exquisite harmonies, melodies that melt the heart and a wintery acoustic sound that delivers shivers.

The Staves are on tour soon. (Dates here) If you're in Devon treat your partner to the best Valentine's evening ever.
