Alpines - Oasis

The gestation period from Alpines early self-described night pop songs such as Drive, Empire and Survival to new song Oasis has been a long one. First featured on these pages way back in late 2010, Catherine Pockson and Bob Matthews have moved from darkly epic menacing tunes to a dance floor and UK radio smash collaboration with Sub Focus, to something more akin to the smouldering modern pop of Jessie Ware. Oasis sounds smooth, ripe for classy cocktail bars full of sexy young men and women in smart clothes, getting ready to rush off to their penthouse apartments with each other for immaculate love-making. You probably won’t find this one being played down in your typical indie basement joint, covered in lager and stinking of sweat, although ironically Alpines return to the stage in February at venue called Basement in London for a free gig. An album is finally due in May.
