Paper Crows - Fingertips / Follow The Leader

If Paper Crows were a lift in the Breaking More Waves HQ, they’d know exactly which buttons to press to get us to the top floor very quickly. So let’s find the doors opening and hear some new music from the band.

Since we first posted about them last summer there’s been a fair amount of on-line buzz around the electronic-duo and specialist shows on BBC Radio 1 have also begun to play their music. On March 21 Paper Crows release a new double a-sided single - Fingertips / Follow The Leader - which should maintain the bands momentum, joining the dots between modern dubstep influenced pop artists and trip-hop of the early 90’s

Fingertips falls somewhere between the heavier moody experimental darkness of bands like The XX and Portishead whilst adding a lighter touch with synthetic strings and acoustic guitar work to complement lead singer Emma’s strong vocal presence. On the reverse side Follow The Leader counterbalances Fingertips neatly –it’s a more awkward upbeat piece not too dissimilar to some of Bjork’s output with beats that offset against the music, giving it an almost electro-tribal feel; we can imagine funked up robots dancing round a virtual campfire to this one.

Follow The Leader is really wonderful. The xx have had a pretty big influence on music and it's really becoming apparent now.
