Chelsea Wilson - New Waves

If you’re a fan of Motown or soul-jazz with a classic throwback 60’s twist, or if your record collection includes the likes of Amy Winehouse, Joss Stone or Duffy then the chances are you’re going to love Melbourne’s Chelsea Wilson. We’re introducing her via the way of I Let A Good Man Down, which packs a punch with some old school charm complete with brassy riffs, smooth organ sounds and gospel styled backing vocals. It’s basically the song that Duffy should have recorded after winning all those Brit Awards, decided to do that diabolical Coke advert, sacked her manager and released the disappointing Endlessly album. Sure it’s not original, ground breaking or progressive in any shape or form, but it’s perfectly crafted and Chelsea’s voice is spot on.

Having self-funded her album, a body of work that doesn’t hold back with its title, I Hope You’ll Be Very Unhappy Without Me, it’s now due for a worldwide release following much praise in Australia. Chelsea describes the long-player as ‘a homage to strong women everywhere, finding your inner strength through surviving bad relationships’.

For those of you, who like Breaking More Waves are based in the UK, you can catch Chelsea’s first ever UK shows at London’s Jazz Café and Glastonbury Festival (the Pussy Parlure stage) this June.
